My name is David Johnson. I am a classic rock, double bass drummer. In my younger years I played in marching and concert bands, in highschool, college and The US Airforce. During that time I was a professional drummer in hard rock bands.

My style has been highly influnced by these experiences of playing. My son who is also a drummer first introduced me to the Djembe. I was fasinated and learned quickly to transfer my style of drumming onto the Djembe.

In the following pages, and in the downloadable videos to come, I will model and show you how I play the Djembe like a drummer. These techniques will be easily transfered to you. You will quickly learn to play the hand drum, with your favorite kind of music, or with friends and band-mates.

There are many web pages that highlight African traditional Djembe playing. This is not one of those pages! I will leave those techniques to the players who love traditional Djembe drumming.
